Seek sanctuary

Located in Spain's Balearic Islands, Felanitx is an old Majorcan town set in the south-east corner of the island. Nestled in pine-clad hills, the sandy-hued buildings are all built in traditional Spanish style. Overlooking the town is the Sant Salvador Sanctuary, a former monastery with some seriously scenic views.

A 20-minute drive towards the coast will land you at Cala d'Or, the quintessential Majorcan beach. Its peaceful blue sea and white sands make it an ideal spot to unwind. There's also an upbeat nightlife scene, so you may want to hang around for a nightcap.

Tantalising tapas

For local eats, restaurants in Felantix dish up some scrummy traditional cuisine – like Majorcan sausage, a speciality of the area. In times gone by, the town was renowned for its wine and brandy. You can still sample these goods at local bodegas – Spanish wine cellars.

Browse and haggle

There's always something to keep you occupied in Felanitx, like the weekly Sunday morning market. Fresh fruit and veg gleam in baskets alongside stalls laden with homemade crafts, clothes and jewellery. The churros alone make the visit worthwhile – crispy, deep-fried and dusted with cinnamon sugar, they're the perfect sweet-tooth solution.
