Vive la France
Whether you studied the language at school, have an affinity for romantic French poetry, or just really like a fresh, fully loaded baguette, France is a top destination to tick off the travel bucket list. Just because it’s only a quick train or plane ride away doesn’t make it any less adventure-filled – you’ve got world-famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, enviable sandy beaches in the French Riviera, and a renowned food and drink culture. It’s the home of the Michelin Guide and the Champagne region, after all.
From Paris, with love
A city break to Paris is a must-do when heading to France. The iconic Eiffel Tower gazes over the city, while the museums – like the maze of the Louvre and the romantic Musée Rodin – are top choices for arty types. The eye-widening architecture of the Arc de Triomphe is another attention-seeker, plus it’s the gateway to luxury shopping along the Champs-Elysées. Paris is easy-as-pie to get around, too, thanks to its underground Metro system.
Mighty mountains and a bounty of beaches
Outside its cities, France is home to all sorts of Insta-worthy landscapes. You’ll find Europe’s tallest mountain – Mont Blanc – which lords it over the rest of the French Alps. There’s a 20-minute scenic cable car ride from Chamonix if you don’t fancy the 12-hour hike to the summit. Skiing holidays are a given in these parts, too. Or, if beaches are more your cup of tea, hit up Nice, Saint Tropez or Cannes, which offer up soft sands and glitzy cocktail bars. These spots also attract more than their fair share of A-listers – selfies at the ready…
