Holidays to Lagos combine beachside relaxation, rugged adventures and fascinating culture for the full Algarve experience.

Beauty spot

Sitting toward the western tip of Portugal's southern coast, Lagos manages to cram a lot into a small space – from golden beaches to cultural highlights. Adventurous travellers will get big waves and coastal hikes, while culture-buffs will love the old-world castle and historic churches.

Non-stop nightlife

During summer, the best parties in Lagos often take place on the sand itself, in front of thumping beachfront nightclubs. There's action year-round though – just head to Rua 25 de Abril and you'll come across a mix of lively bars, with more laidback options tucked down the side streets.

Outdoor thrills

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to action-adventure here. Sea-based jaunts range from dolphin-spotting to guided kayaking, and are the best way to discover the area's coastal beauty. Meanwhile, dusty trails criss-cross the cliffs and countryside, which you can tackle by foot, mountain bike or on horseback.

Beside the sea

Within walking distance of the town centre, you'll find four of the Algarve's best beaches. For spectacular landscape photos, head to rocky Dona Ana Beach. However, if you only have time for one, make it sandy Meia Praia – the biggest of the bunch, it stretches for four kilometres.
