A holiday to Lazise is a proper people-pleaser, with scenic surroundings, a lively harbour and centuries of history.

A real scene-stealer

Lake Garda sets the bar high for picturesque towns – and Lazise certainly delivers. At the foot of the Morainic Hills in northern Italy, it may be smaller than its neighbours Bardolino and Peschiera, but it's big on personality. At the harbour, slimline boats bob on one side while the other hums with bars and restaurants.

Sands and spas

Lazise's blessed with one of the few sandy beaches on Lake Garda – it's understandably popular, so come early to bag a spot. The lakeside boulevard's ideal for an evening passeggiata – Italian for stroll – and for sampling fine wines and gourmet delights. For a real treat, spend a relaxing afternoon at the Villa dei Cedri thermal spa.

Step back in time

The Romanesque Church of San Nicolò has held onto its harbourside real estate since the 11th century. To the south is Scaligero Castle – the gaping hole in its north wall is courtesy of a 15th-century cannon strike. A 12th-century fortress also stands guard nearby.
