Holidays to Mljet are just a little bit magical, whether you're losing yourself in the forest or swimming to a legendary cave.
Go green in Mljet
Mijet's the southernmost of the Dalmatian Islands. It's also Croatia's greenest, with lush flora and a crystal-clear sea. The entire western half's one huge national park with two saltwater lakes, making Mljet the ideal destination for nature-lovers and hikers.
Cave of legends
If you're looking for adventure, visit Odysseus Cave on Mljet's south coast. According to Greek legend, Odysseus swam here after being shipwrecked, and a beautiful nymph kept him captive for seven years. You can hike to the cave, but it's much easier to reach by sea.
Paddle to Sveta Marija
To fully appreciate Mljet's landscape, you'll want to jump in a kayak. Around a 30-minute paddle on Veliko Jezero Lake takes you to Sveta Marija, a small island with a former Benedictine monastery that's now a restaurant – talk about a unique pit stop.
