Playa Taurito holidays plant you on a small-but-perfectly-formed patch of sand, where watersports, a waterpark and tapas bars are at the ready.

Sunny south-west Gran Canaria

With craggy cliffs on three sides, and rolling sea views on the other, Playa Taurito feels nicely cut-off from its larger Gran Canarian counterparts. It’s just what the doctor ordered if you’re looking to up sticks and park yourself on a good-looking slice of black-sand beach, where you can take full advantage of the Canary Islands’ year-round sunshine.

Slides and sangria

Just because it feels tucked away, that doesn’t mean Playa Taurito is a wallflower. You can unleash your competitive side on the beach volleyball court, ride the slides at the waterpark, and bounce across the waves on a banana boat or jet-ski. For something more down-tempo, rotate between coffee, tapas and cocktails at the handful of bars along the short-but-pretty prom.

Noteable neighbours

From the far end of the beach, you can clap eyes on Playa Taurito’s nearest neighbour, Puerto Mogan. This place is slightly bigger and busier than Playa Taurito. Its Venice-style canals and cute marina pull in the punters. Speaking of which, the port is a launchpad for boat trips. Some show you sunken shipwrecks through a snorkel, while others whizz you over to the town of Puerto Rico, home to a big shopping centre and an Angry Birds-themed outdoor play area.
