Holidays to Ajman are a calm intro to the Middle East, with soft, sandy beaches and lots of sunshine.

A small world

Far less busy than nearby Dubai, the United Arab Emirates' Ajman boasts an enviable stretch of white sandy beach that hugs over 30 kilometres of the Persian Gulf. Two tall, rounded watchtowers and a giant terracotta castle guard the 18th-century fort.

Rest and relaxation

Ajman sets the perfect scene for chilling out, with a long sandy beach and water as warm as a bath. There's an interesting museum full of fascinating artefacts when you want your culture fix, and the dining options are as laidback or swish as you like.

Dubai by night

Nightlife in Ajman's mostly kept to its hotels. For nightclubs, bright lights and a glittering marina, you'll have to drive 40 minutes to Dubai. Not to be missed is the Burj Khalifa – the world's tallest building of more than 200 storeys – and its dancing water fountain display.
