Holidays to Skanes focus on the enormous white-sandy beach. But there are medinas, ancient amphitheatres and Saharan Jeep safaris within easy reach, too.

A tip-top beach

Skanes is all about the beach. Upscale hotels are lined up along it, meaning sunloungers, parasols and watersports are all in good supply. The hotels sort out the nightlife here, too. And when you want to see more of the area, you’ve got nearby Monastir and Sousse to explore.

Desert adventures

Look beyond the beach and you have mountain and desert landscapes right on your doorstep. Getting into the Sahara couldn’t be easier with a Jeep safari, or you can take it all in from the back of a camel.

Daytrips to El Jem

A 90-minute drive from Skanes gets to you El Jem, a must-see Roman amphitheatre with the UNESCO stamp of approval. Scale wise, it’s nearly as big as Rome’s Colosseum and comes with underground passageways and high terraces to climb. The museum here gives you all the deets on the place, along with a collection of mosaics.
