Holidays to Slano are fit for a postcard front. This little town hugs a wide natural bay and is backed by olive groves and tree-cloaked hills.

Village with a view

This dinky village is slipped into a brag-worthy spot next to the Adriatic Sea, wedged between a gin-clear bay and tree-speckled hills. So it comes as no surprise that Slano isn’t a stranger to compliments on its model-good looks. Plus, its secluded location means it’s still in touch with its traditional roots.

Pine-fringed trails

You won’t want to forget your walking boots, as Slano’s beautiful backdrop is criss-crossed with trails that are spot on for cycling and hiking. Take your pick from routes that slice through the middle of pine-filled forests, olive groves or fruit orchards. Alternatively, stick to the coastline for bottomless sea views.

Sights in Slano

Although you might not have heard of this below-the-radar village before, it definitely doesn’t scrimp on the sights. There are plenty of Roman and Greek ruins to explore, along with a recently spruced up palace that was once the holiday home for the Dubrovnik Republic’s top dogs. But if you’re after even bigger-hitting sights, you won’t have to go far – the UNESCO-listed Dubrovnik old town is a 40-minute drive away.
