Neighbourly influences
Slovenia’s like a person that’s lived in a bunch of different places, and taken snippets of inspiration from all of them to create its own image. Some coastal towns can be seen to channel Italian vibes, and there are Austrian and Hungarian tell-tale signs in the cuisine. There are similarities with Croatia and Hungary, meanwhile, when you cast an eye to the more rural areas.
Easy on the eye
Snapping pictures of Slovenia is a treat, because it can make even the most amateur photographer feel like a National Geographic pro. Mirror-like lakes pierced by church-dotted islands, dramatic snow-capped mountains and far-as-the-eye-can-see forests make the landscape a must-see. And the nature trails and waterside towns that crop up make them a nice option for families.
Active escapes
Having little ones in tow doesn’t mean that exploring’s off the cards – there are plenty of activities up Slovenia’s sleeve for the whole clan. Kayaking along gentle streams, or learning to paddleboard across one of the statue-still lakes are ideal if you want to be by the water. See horses at one of the country’s famous stud farms, delve deep into natural caves, or see animals up close in the capital, at Ljubljana Zoo.
Family holidays to Slovenia come complete with your flights, hotel and transfers in one handy bundle.
