Holidays to Arguineguin, on the southern tip of Gran Canaria, are all about the calm waters and busy market.

Coast to coast

The fishing village of Arguineguin's on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. The draw here's the family-friendly coastline. Its shores are famed for their tranquil waters and clutch of beaches, but that doesn't mean watersport enthusiasts are left high and dry – the town's home to a top-class diving school, too.

Out and about

Each Tuesday, the seafront swells as the market at Arguineguin fills with stalls hawking everything from jewellery and bikinis to tasty fruit and veg. For the freshest fish going, head to the port area. For thrills and scenery, Maspalomas – a 15-minute drive away – gets a thumbs up for its waterpark, theme park and soaring sand dunes.

Water action

A paddle-boarder's delight awaits at Las Maranuelas Beach. Thanks to the natural protection of a headland and the harbour, the water makes a top spot for the sport. The tiny beach of La Lajilla has golden sands fronted by a natural pool of water. Those in the know head here to escape the crowds.
