Haute Rive holidays hardly make a peep. In fact, the main sound you'll hear is the waves breaking on the sand.

Small and secluded

There might not be a church in Haute Rive, but the surroundings are about as quiet as one. It’s a diddy little resort on the north-east coast of Mauritius, where life revolves around beach days and little else. There aren’t many locals in this neck of the woods, so the handful of hotels have the sands and sun-smattered countryside to themselves.

North-coast daytrips

Haute Rive’s in its own little bubble, but it’s easy to break out and get a taste of what the nearby towns have in stock. It only takes half an hour to drive to Grand Baie, at the top of the island, where you can part with some holiday cash at the bevy of souvenir stores. Cap Malheureux is a popular spot, thanks to the Red Roof Church which tourists flock to see. And in Pereybere, the water’s brimming with glass-bottomed and deep-sea-fishing boats.

Blue and white

The colour scheme back in Haute Rive revolves around blue and white. There’s a whopper of a coral reef just off the shoreline, which ranks among the world’s largest. Slap on a snorkel or grab diving gear from a watersports centre. The beach itself is the colour of a milky latte, and there are a couple of portions furnished with sunloungers and daybeds.
