Holidays to Kokkari, a small village on the Greek island of Samos, promise a welcome as warm as the summer sunshine.

Fisherman's friend

Sitting on the northern coast of Greece's Samos Island, Kokkari's fishing village origins are evident everywhere. Seafront bars and tavernas might have replaced the fishermen's cottages on the shore, but they serve up delicious seafood dishes, and you'll still see fishing boats bobbing in the harbour.

A choice of beaches

The northerly winds at Kokkari's long beach make it perfect for windsurfing, but a little too blustery for a relaxing dip. Sandy Lemonakia Beach, a five-minute drive away, is one of the loveliest stretches for sunbathing on Samos. Two more small beaches lie on the other side of the peninsula.

Seaside dining

Expect a warm welcome in Kokkari's seaside tavernas, where fish is served fresh from the net. Outside, friends congregate to drink coffee and play cards on vine-covered terraces. After lunch, take a stroll along the waterfront or browse some of the boutique jewellery shops that Kokkari's known for.

Out and about

Kokkari's particularly well-placed for an expedition to Mount Karvouni, with walking trails leading straight up from the village itself. Alternatively, opt for a slightly less taxing trip to Samos Town – be sure to visit the old town's cobbled streets and bustling seafront cafés.
