Holidays to Lakithra offer a window into Kefalonian life. Here, time is spent enjoying al fresco meals, mingling with the locals, and exploring countryside that stretches for miles.

Brilliant location

The southern village of Lakithra owes its popularity to its spectacular setting. The hamlet’s whitewashed buildings are spread over a series of green foothills, which look out towards the Ionian Sea. Its high-up location means there’s always a nice breeze, even in the hot summer months.

Village life

The village centre is made up of timeworn churches, tavernas serving local food, and family-run businesses, including a traditional Greek bakery and a couple of mini markets. It’s about as far from commercial as you can get. Locals outnumber tourists, so you’ll get a nice snapshot of everyday village life.

Places nearby

Lakithra gives you easy access to some of Kefalonia’s best beaches. It’s just a 10-minute drive from Lassi, where you’ll find not one, but two ribbons of sand – Makris Yialos and Platis Yialos. They’re both fringed with restaurants, cafés, and bars offering happy hours. If you want even more choice, head for the capital, Argostoli. It’s a 10-minute drive north, and it’s home to archaeological museums and a central square spilling over with coffee shops.
