Coast, cliffs and caves

From the seashore to the hills, the landscape around the Italian city of Olbia on the north-west coast of Sardinia is magical. With a historical city centre, plenty of shopping opportunities and white-sand beaches to top it all off, there's plenty to see and do here.

Historical big-hitter

Wander through Olbia's café-lined piazza and head over to the San Simplicio Temple Necropolis to learn about the history of the city, from the Roman age all the way through to the Middle Ages. There's plenty of architecture to admire, too – why not stop by the Chiesa Di San Polo Apostolo and snap a photo of the multi-coloured dome that sits atop the church.

Dreamy daytrips

Corsica's just a hop away by ferry, and the ride takes only an hour. Lush valleys, pristine beaches and thick forests blanket this Mediterranean island. Meanwhile, sweet villages and thriving cities deserve a pit stop, too.

Picture perfect

If you're up for the drive, visit the towns of Bosa and Alghero. Both are just under a two-hour drive from Olbia but are worth the trip. It's no wonder so many great artists came from Italy with towns like Bosa to paint – high up above the town is a castle surrounded by colourful buildings, while Alghero is filled with shops, museums, restaurants and cafés.
