Holidays to Puerto del Carmen put beaches and watersports at the top of the agenda. Plus, it's got a night scene that sizzles.

Lanzarote’s mover and shaker

A party animal’s paradise, Puerto del Carmen serves up the whole nightlife kit and caboodle, from karaoke bars to cocktail lounges, and everything in between. Avenida de las Playas is the head honcho – it’s lined with bars and clubs, and links the town to Arrecife and Playa Honda next door. There are no less than 40 Irish pubs, too.

Scuba central

With warm waters and top-notch visibility, Lanzarote pips the rest of the Canray Islands to the post when it comes to scuba diving. In Puerto del Carmen, a spot on the southern coast means the sea is sheltered and calm, and there’s heaps to see below the surface. Underneath the waves, you’ll find a rainbow of colour, as well as impressive rock formations, like La Catedral.

A Blue Flag trio

There’s a three beach line-up going on here, and they’re all super family-friendly. Playa Grande lives up to its name, rolling alongside the resort’s main strip and dotted with sunbeds and umbrellas. Playa Chica’s a cosy bay in the old town, which is perfect for swimming. If you fancy donning your snorkel, keep an eye out for Felix, the huge 50-kilo grouper fish who lives on the reef. On Playa Pocillos, you’ve got a kilometre of golden sand, and a shop-stacked promenade.
