Amadores holidays showcase Gran Canaria's low-key side. A big, sandy beach and a winding clifftop path set the sleepy scene.

Chilled-out Gran Canaria

The hillside town of Amadores perches on Gran Canaria’s coast. And, if you’re looking for a laidback getaway, this is the place for you – it runs on R&R. You can plant your parasol on the Blue Flag beach, or lace up your trainers and take a leisurely clifftop stroll. Long, low-key evenings typical of Spain are on the cards in the waterfront bars and restaurants, too.

Pop over to Puerto Rico

If you fancy a break from all that peace and quiet, take a trip to next-door Puerto Rico. You can turn up the volume in the town’s bars and clubs, which pump out plenty of loud music that’s sure to get you out on the dancefloor. Plus, you’ve got a couple of shopping centres if you fancy splashing the cash on some souvenirs. And all this is just a five-minute taxi ride away.

Visit Las Palmas

For a spot of Canary Islands culture, mosey over to the island’s capital, Las Palmas, which is an hour away by car. Here, you can easily switch between sightseeing and sunbathing. There’s a duo of easy-on-the-eye beaches, as well as a generous helping of things to do, including monuments, museums, and a 15th-century, supersize cathedral. You’ll be treated to some jaw-dropping views from the top of the bell tower. And, you won’t even have to tackle a winding staircase to get there – there’s a lift that’ll whizz you right up.
