You can be as relaxed or as active as you like on a holiday to Esquinzo, with ace surfing on one hand and sunbathing-ready beaches on the other.

A Canary Island secret

Open Google Maps, find Fuerteventura, then wriggle your finger down to the island’s heel. It’s on this curvy corner that you’ll find the library-quiet resort of Esquinzo. This place keeps it head down, hogging the limelight only when it comes to peaceful beaches and eyebrow-raising ocean scenes. The munch is pretty good, too – you can tuck into tapas in most restaurants.

Sign up for surfing

If Esquinzo was a summer camp, the main activities to sign up for would be surfing and sun-worshipping. In true surfer style, carve your way over some of the Canary Islands’ signature waves. Or do some from-the-water sightseeing by testing your balance on a paddleboard. There’s a watersports centre on Esquinzo’s beach where you can grab your equipment.

Epic island outings

Daytrips around Fuerteventura couldn’t be easier than from Esquinzo. Zip up north in the car – in 15 minutes you’ll land at Costa Calma, where kitten-soft beaches provide a perfect setting to work on your tan. Alternatively, veer south to Playa del Matorral where the beaches are the same toothpaste shade of white as the resort’s famous seafront lighthouse.
