Fethiye holidays guarantee you a slice of traditional Turkey, with a good dollop of tourist-friendly attractions on the side.

Bit-of-both belter

Fethiye is one of the anchors of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, AKA Dalaman Area. It sits at the opposite end to fellow big dog, Antalya, but this place likes to take it easy. You’ve got a city with a vine-coated old town, plus a nearby sand-and-shingle beach with clear water. And it also doubles up as a handy base for daytrippin’ to places like Olu Deniz and Kayakoy.

History lesson

This place isn’t just a launch pad for tours, it’s a destination in its own right. In the town centre, you’ve got the crumbling ruins of a 6,000-seat Roman theatre. You can even climb to the top tier for stellar views. And the city’s museum is a great place to get clued up on the area’s history – before or after your sightseeing stints. Plus, you’ve got a load of rock tombs to check out in the hills behind.

Laidback life

It’s not all city sights, though – you can squeeze in some holiday reading at nearby Calis Beach. It’s a 20-minute cab or dolmus ride away. And it might look familiar. You know the part in Skyfall when Bond’s lying low on a tropical-looking beach, after getting shot? That was filmed here. Cafés have popped up to say hello on the prom, but there are back-to-bare bits, as well.
