Holidays to Gaios feature sapphire waters, evening strolls around picturesque villages and delicious Greek fare at local tavernas.

A carefree capital

Gaios, capital of the small Greek island of Paxos, will steal your heart with its laidback personality and nautical charm. Expect peaceful, picturesque beaches, as well as narrow lanes to wander, shops to browse and bars to hop – not bad for a little town.

Shore to shore

Deciding which of the nearby beaches is most breathtaking's a tough challenge. Erimitis Bay's wild good-looks are a 10-minute drive across to the west coast, while 15-minutes up the east coast's the more chilled Monodendri Beach. You can even water-taxi to the white sands of Vrika Beach on the neighbouring isle of Antipaxos.

Unspoiled isles

The tiny islands of St Nicholas and Panayia sit on Gaios' doorstep, a stone's throw from the shore. The former's home to a couple of interesting cultural landmarks, such as the ruins of an old Venetian fort, while the latter boasts a tree-wreathed church – talk about divine views.
