Port des Torrent holidays are a chill and thrill mash-up. The town hums a calm tune, and nearby San Antonio chirps in with a more boisterous chorus.

Back to basics

Snatch a glance at Port des Torrent, and it’s easy to see it’s fresh on the holiday scene. Most of this seaside town’s got its feet planted in traditional times, so the big players are whitewashed villas, simple apartments and scenery with the mod cons subbed out. Tavernas parade themselves in time-honoured fashion beside the waterfront, and the party prowess of one of the Balearic Islands' biggest hitters – San Antonio – is far enough away for nights to stay bass-free.

Party pals

While the pace in Port des Torrent trundles along peacefully, fast-paced San Antonio revs its engine in the next lane. A 15-minute drive separates the two, so there’s plenty of elbow room for club and calm-seekers alike. The Blue Flag marina’s a hub of activity during the day, with banana boats hammering the surf and sunset cruises setting off later on. Cast an eye to the east coast, and the bars and restaurants of Ibiza Town are snipped from a more cultured cloth.

Bijou beach

What the beach here lacks in size, it more than makes up for in substance. Cute wooden loungers match the town’s authentic threads, and tree-mounted headlands squeeze either end of the cotton-soft sand. There’s a bundle of watersports, which add their name to proceedings, plus family-run beach huts and restaurants with menus as typically Spanish as their appearance.
