Holidays to Puerto Naos deliver natural awe – think dramatic volcanoes and ebony beaches wrapped around a little village.
Fresh seafood
Puerto Naos is on the west coast of the Canary Island of La Palma, closer to north-west Africa than to Spain. It's a chilled-out fishing village with restaurants and bars in its backstreets and along the waterfront. Squid, 'papas arrugadas' – a traditional potato dish – and desserts of crushed almonds and honey are a few classics to sample.
Unforgettable hikes
For wild, rugged terrain and sweeping views, you have to check out the volcanic trail. Starting in Refugio El Pilar in the Parque Natural de Cumbre, you'll pass by craggy peaks, lava streams and ancient craters. It's a full day out, but worth it for the photos and all-around intrepid feeling.
