Bahia Maimon holidays have popped a chill pill. Things revolve around the Caribbean-classic beach and its blue-chip snorkelling.
Slice of seclusion
Bahia Maimon cut its own wedge out of the Dominican Republic’s west coast – in between the forests and mountains. A duo of swanky hotels has taken up residence here. And it doesn’t take two guesses to realise why once you’ve clocked eyes on its bang-up beach. Plus, it’s easy to grab a cab to nearby Puerto Plata.
This place has a doorstep dusted with white sand. And it’s barely a Lilo’s length to a colourful coral reef. Wade in up to your waist to see sergeant majors, peacock flounders and scorpionfish. Other than that, things are kept on the down-low – we’re talking a couple of beachfront joints, non-motorised watersports and a bunch of palms for shade.
Shop, dance, see
Generally speaking, Bahia Maimon wouldn’t say boo to a goose. So the hotels do the talking. They dish out shops, cabaret shows and discos that you can dance the night away in. Or you can up roots to Puerto Plata within 20 minutes’ drive. Here, there’s a misty mountain crowned with rainforest-like gardens and a Rio-style statue of Christ. Plus, you can see the fossil which inspired the Jurassic Park director, Steven Spielberg, at the Amber Museum.
