Fuschl has a handful of beaches and bathing lakes to choose from. Visit the quieter beach of Stöllinger on the southern shores of the water, or, just further along, the equally tranquil Wesenauer, with patches of golden sand. Or head to the more family-friendly Fuschlseebad lakeside beach and pool.
Beach with a view
For a truly breathtaking experience, drop by the Hof bei Salzburg bathing lake in Fuschlsee, which is surrounded by sweeping mountain scenery. This natural beach comes with changing facilities, beach volleyball, a sprawling grass area and a sunbathing jetty.
Fuschlseebad lakeside beach
Families will find everything they need at Fuschlseebad. Not only is there a sandy beach, but you’ll also find plenty of watersports, play areas and slides to keep everyone busy. There’s a big indoor area, too, for when the weather is not so pleasant.
Hop on a bus to scoop up some local bargains and delicious produce at the weekly farmers' market. Great for holiday snaps and taking in the atmosphere, the market runs every Friday on Aubockplatz in Bad Ischl, just outside Fuschl.
There aren't too many shops in Fuschl, but there’s a small collection of mid-range stores selling traditional clothing, gifts and souvenirs.
Fuschl is a very small village and is all about the slower, quiet nightlife. A popular evening pastime is a gentle stroll along the waterfront.
For a spot of live music, the larger hotels often put on various musical nights, set in lovely surroundings. The music ranges from oompah bands to jazz and also more contemporary.
Friendly bars, cafés and restaurants line the streets of Fuschl, offering a warm welcome to everyone. You can sample locally caught fish in many of the eateries and, as the region is famous for its elderberry pastures, there is an abundance of fruity specialities for you to get your hands on, like the elderberry flower cuvée. You’ll find some restaurants sitting on the tranquil lakeside, but there are also a good few dotted around the centre of resort.
Sweet treats at The Ruming Mill
A short walk from Fuschl’s town centre is The Ruming Mill, a gorgeous café in a lovely woodland setting that serves delicious homemade cakes and their very own elderberry cordial.
Authentic fare at Restaurant Brunnwirt
On the lakefront is the Restaurant Brunnwirt, with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is handwritten in German - don’t worry if you don't speak German, the staff will translate for you - and offers inventive versions of traditional dishes.
Dine like a local at Café Flora
In the centre of town is Café Flora, a casual and modern establishment ideal for lunch or just a quick drink. It’s known as the hub of the town as it’s always full of people, and it offers a range of Austrian and international dishes.
