Holidays to Hetta are an enchanting mix of winter-wonderland scenery, hearty grub and Finnish hospitality.
Hetta's on the edge of the ancient hiking and trekking trails of Lapland in northern Finland. This is as far north as it gets for Europe, so expect a fairly remote feel – perfect for a truly tranquil getaway. Wide-open plains border alpine forests and icy lakes, with cosy log huts dotted in between.
Head through the woodlands and you might just see the majestic reindeer that call this place home. Night safaris, meanwhile, offer sights of a different sort – this is one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the mesmerising Northern Lights. For those with a little patience, ice fishing's possible for most of the year.
You'll be rosy-cheeked and glowing after swooping through the snow-capped forest trails on your skis. In the warmer months, Jyppyra lookout makes a great hike – it's a steep route, so allow a few hours to reach the jaw-dropping views at the top.
After landing at Kittila Airport – where you’ll collect your thermal snow clothes – you’ll be whisked off to your hotel in Hetta. You can use the rest of the day to suss out your snowy surroundings.
This morning is packed-full of taster sessions – pick from the likes of husky-sled rides and snowmobiling. Afterwards, there’s a toboggan run to tackle. Or, head inside the Kota tent– a teepee-style hut – for a traditional Lappish ceremony. Come afternoon, you can spend time in the snow, or book onto one of our full excursions.
On day 3, choose from extra excursions like reindeer sleigh rides and snowmobiling.
Today you can go toboganning. What’s more, there’ll also be a chance to sit down with the man in red himself – Santa Claus. After all that excitement, you’ll finish the day with a festive feast.
