Holidays to Playa Dorada are the last word in all-inclusive enjoyment. A huge holiday complex gives you sandy Caribbean beaches, restaurants, bars and golf – all in one.
A dedicated resort
Some resorts just don’t like to mess about – and Playa Dorada on the Dominican Republic’s north coast is one of them. What you’ve got here is a gated community of hotels where the all-inclusive deal means you really don’t have to work hard at getting what you want. Restaurants, casinos, clubs – this place just keeps on giving. It even throws in the beach for free, too.
Here, you’ve got a 2-kilometre stretch of golden sand fringed with palm trees. It comes with sunloungers and parasols – on the house, naturally. If you want to keep things laid-back there are massage ladies, who’ll sort out any tension for 15 US dollars. Or if you’re up for some activity, you can jump on a banana boat or try out the windsurfing.
Activities on tap
Playa Dorada pulls out all the stops on the activity front. Aside from the pool-based fun laid on by the hotels, there’s an 18-hole golf course, a riding stable and even a cinema at the resort’s Plaza Mall. And as a bonus ball, 10 minutes’ down the road you’ve got bumper cars and go-karts at Fun City.
Day trips to Puerto Plata
Ten minutes by taxi and you’re in the capital, Puerto Plato. The place dishes up a more traditional taste of the Dominican Republic, with its mix of modern, colonial and Victorian buildings. Over in the old quarter you’ve got a twin-spired cathedral, while the seafront boulevard deals up the impressive fortress of Castillo San Felipe.
