Columbus Festival
This festival does exactly what it says on the tin. Christopher Columbus made Porto Santo his home for a time, and the island joins together to mark his achievements in a week-long celebration. Most of the festivities take place in the capital, Vila Baleira, where exhibitions, parades and street parties are held. There’s even a re-enactment of Columbus’ arrival on the island.
