A day in Chamonix

Morning
Head to the peaks on the Aiguille du Midi, the world’s highest cable car, taking you up to 3,777m. At the top, snap pics over the French, Swiss and Italian Alps from the six viewing terraces. Feeling brave? ‘Step into the Void’, a glass box jutting over the mountain edge, with a 1,000m drop below and a knockout view.

Lunch
While you're up here, grab lunch at Le 3842 for a meal with a front-row seat to the mountains.

Afternoon
Then head across the Italian border on the Panoramic Mont Blanc cable car, passing over the brightly coloured tents of mountaineers tackling the Mer de Glace glacier. You can buy a return ticket, but we recommend choosing the Trans-Mont-Blanc ticket to go down into Courmayeur and explore – don’t forget your passport.

Evening
Hop on the bus and head back to Chamonix via the Mont Blanc tunnel. Then potter through the town centre or hit the spa before dinner – you’re spoilt for choice with restaurants here, with tastes to suit every palate.
