The Guia Chicken Festival
This two-day fiesta has been going for more than 25 years and sees the whole of Guia come out for one giant barbecue. There are huge charcoal grills set up and the smell of spicy wings fills the air, which usually brings in a few thousand people. You’ll often get traditional Portuguese bands performing during the event. It’s held in the sports complex a couple of minutes’ walk from the old town.
