Matala Beach Festival, Matala
Matala was once a European hangout for singers like Janice Joplin and Bob Dylan – and today the village keeps the hippy spirit going with an annual weekend festival. Last year 60,000 people flocked here and the stars of the show were Sixties and Seventies tribute bands. There are also bazaars on the sand, art exhibitions and a play area for children. It’s a 10-minute drive away and in the spirit of things it’s free – including camping on the beach.
