Take a gondola ride through the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge

Venice clocks up more than 500 canals and bridges – but a couple stand head and shoulders above the rest. Shaped like a letter ‘S’, the Grand Canal snakes for two miles through the stilted city. Gondolas, vaporettos and water taxis glide up and down against a backdrop of wall-to-wall medieval palazzos. The Rialto, meanwhile, is a carved stone bridge that’s spanned the Grand Canal for more than 400 years.
