There’s no better way to ring in the new year than with an epic fireworks display. We’re such big fans, in fact, that we’ve been hunting for firework-filled nights throughout the year, as well as our fave NYE displays. Here’s our pick of the best…

Grab a front row seat at the Burj Khalifa, aka the tallest building in the world, and get ready for a kaleidoscope of colour on New Year’s Eve in Dubai. Watch synchronised sparkles shooting across the sky, or head over to the Palm Jumeriah and be dazzled by over 500,000 fireworks. You’ll feel the heat without the need for a bonfire, too, with temperatures topping 45 degrees in the summer. Toasty.
Bigger is always better at Walt Disney World, and its firework displays are no exception. Get your hat and gloves on and pick your park – there are different displays at each one. Try Epcot for its Illuminations show, which takes places over a huge lake, or try antasmic!, Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ spectacle, and be dazzled by a combination of pyrotechnics, light projections and floats. Don’t miss the main event over in the Magic Kingdom, either. Watch your favourite Disney movies being brought to life through projections, movies and fireworks. Shows start every night at 10pm, and you’ll find special events on at Christmas, Halloween and Independence Day.
The Day of The Dead is Mexico’s answer to Halloween. It’s a fiery fiesta that celebrates life and death, and the fireworks displays are pretty otherworldly, too. Mexico City wins the honour of best spectacle, hands down. Locals flock to cemeteries to dance around bonfires, drink tequila and remember the departed underneath the technicolour light shows.
How’s this for a claim to fame? Madeira holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest fireworks display on earth. Every New Year’s Eve, waves of Roman Candles and Bottle Rockets light up the night skies over this Portuguese island. For the best view, charter a boat and sail into Funchal Bay – the displays are even more dazzling from the sea.
We’re not just talking about a night of fireworks when it comes to Malta. Every April, the country celebrates joining the European Union with a huge five-day firework competition. Pyrotechnic companies from all over the world flock here to hear the snap, crackle and pop as fireworks fill the sky. Watch the main event unfold next year from the 28th of April to the 2nd of May, starting in Marsaxlokk, carrying on in Valletta, and finishing with a spectacular finale in Bugibba.
