Never heard of a babymoon? Allow us to explain. This increasingly popular trend is all about mums-to-be jetting off on holiday in the months leading up to welcoming their new arrival. Why do it? Well, it’s the perfect opportunity to get some much-needed R&R before those sleepless nights kick in, for starters. So whether you fancy a chilled city break, a sunshine escape, or a foodie weekend away, here are the five best holidays for a babymoon…
Best for: Foodies
We think Sicily is one of the best places in Europe for a babymoon thanks to its gorgeous settings. You’ll get a taste of la dolce vita if you stay in the culture-filled resort of Cefalu, located on Sicily’s northern coast. It’s famed for its stylish vibe, luxurious lidos, and more pizzerias than you could ever imagine, making it the ultimate babymoon location if soaking up local culture’s your thing. And because comfort and relaxation will be high on your list, look no further than Hotel Fiesta Garden Beach. As the name suggests, the hotel comes with its own private beach – so you’ll have plenty of space to chill out on the sand. Elsewhere, you’ll have three lagoon-style outdoor pools, and three different restaurants to dine at. Fantastico.
Best for: Culture
Looking for a quick break? Mesmerising Marrakech could be the perfect choice for your babymoon. This hippy hangout has basically taken over Instagram this summer thanks to its pastel-coloured buildings, and with an easy flight time of just over three hours from London Gatwick, you’ll be there fast. When it comes to checking in, it’s got to be the Riu Tikida Garden. This grown-up hotel meets the definition of relaxation with its all-encompassing spa treatment list. Just some of the highlights include beauty treatments, like facials, manicures, and pedicures – the list goes on. There’s also a huge pool, and the hotel’s restaurant cooks up locally sources tagine. What more could you want?
Best for: Scenery
Looking to catch some sun before it sets for the winter? If you’re nodding, then head to Kefalonia for your babymoon. This Ionian beauty is the largest (and arguably the prettiest) of all them all, where vanilla-tinted sands, those tell-tale blue waters, and amazing cuisine are all up for grabs. Plus, if you visit the island during May, the mercury hovers at a more comfortable 24 degrees. We think expectant mothers will love the Apostolata Island Resort & Spa. Here, you can look forward to countless luxuries, like an infinity pool overlooking the sea, a traditional Greek restaurant, and swim-up rooms.
Best for: Beaches
If you picture Majorca as nothing more than a lads’ holiday spot, think again. Cosmopolitan Majorca is packed with glamorous beaches, stylish hotels, and chic restaurants – making the largest of the Balearic Island’s one of the best holiday spots for a babymoon. Looking for somewhere sleek and shiny to stay? Aluasoul Alcudia Bay should get your vote. This adults-only retreat has been revamped for 2017, so you can expect modern interiors and a stylish spa, to name a few. Plus, you’ll only be a 10-minute stroll away from Alcudia’s Blue Flag sands – if that’s not a reason to book, we don’t know what is.
Take it easy in Tenerife
Best for: Date night
If the Canaries are calling you, make Tenerife your one and only babymoon destination. Along the southwest coast of the volcanic island, you’ll find Playa de la Arena, which is as peaceful as it gets. This quiet corner of Tenerife comes with a Blue Flag, black-sand beach, rugged scenery, and you’ll have easy access to Mount Teide National Park, too. Did we mention this gorgeous national park is perfect for date night? Mount Teide is one of the most romantic places on the island to watch the sun sink, thanks to the ridges and rocks that take on pink and red hues. Babymoon goals, achieved.
