Alongside its full-of-gems mainland – boasting the likes of the Costa Brava – Spain’s bevy of islands is like a pick ‘n’ mix of holiday destinations. For starters, you’ve got the Balearic Islands. Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca are spot on for close-to-home beach holidays – with flights taking just over two hours. Meanwhile, the Canary Islands are top of the class for year-round sunshine. You’ve got lots to choose from, too, from big names like Gran Canaria and Tenerife, to under-the-radar spots like La Gomera and La Palma. Whether you’re in need of some warmth during winter, or you want to jet off for summer, these islands are what you’re after. We’ve picked out a few of our favourite hotels for your next Spanish island escape…
1. Occidental Jandia Playa – Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
The clue’s in the name with the Occidental Jandia Playa. This place overlooks Jandia Beach, which is blanketed with cotton-white sand – it’s a dreamy spot for sunbathers. For food and drink, you’ve got a couple of restaurants and a quartet of bars. The Corralejo buffet restaurant dishes up Mediterranean meals, while the Morro Jable restaurant deals in brekkie and snacks. Plus, water babies will love the pair of pools. The main swimming spot’s seriously roomy – the bar on its edge is the cherry on the cake. You’ll find the second pool next to the spa, which boasts a sauna and a hot tub, as well as a menu of treat-yourself massages and facials.
