Kardashian smardashian. This month, we’ve got a new obsession. We’re all talking about our fave ginger prince, Harry, and his bride-to-be, Meghan Markle. And, since he put a ring on it, we’re nudging our other halves expectantly, while dropping hints on where we’d like that special moment to happen. Need some inspo? Here are our top five proposal spots, whether you want to pop the question yourself, or wait patiently for the bling to appear…
Proposals, by their nature, are sickly sweet – and we’re totally ok with that. So, where better to try for a yes than sweet-toothed St Lucia? Pluck ripe cacao pods straight from the tree, turn them into chocolate, and find out if food really is the way to the heart. Want to burn off all that sugar before getting down on one knee? Zipline over tropical rainforests to the peak of bubbling volcanoes and explore candy-coloured houses in romantic colonial towns. Or, if you’re after the ultimate proposal views, climb up to the top of The Pitons pick your moment, and make sure you’ve got your camera handy.
Ibiza for sunset backdrops
It’s hard not to be romanced by a sunset, especially when they’re world-famous like Ibiza’s. Get hearts in your eyes with a romantic donkey ride, or wait for the ring to appear as you look out over a sea of whitewashed houses. Need a ring? There’s no better place than San Antonio for a unique bit of bling. Shop in row after row of glittering silver jewellery in the market, and get a ring that’ll slip on without a worry. We already can’t wait to double-tap those Instagram #imgettingmarried pics.
Cape Verde for beach lovers
Other-worldly beaches go hand-in-hand with sparkly rings, right? Get the ultimate beachy backdrop for those just-said-yes pics in Cape Verde. As you watch newborn turtles take their first steps towards their life in the sea, ask your beau if they want to spend the rest of their life with you (nope, not too clichéd). If you’re looking for somewhere hot but close to home, you’ve bagged a winner here, too. Few people know that Cape Verde’s only a six hour hop away – so if you want somewhere that feels like the other side of the world, but don’t want the long flight, you know where to go.
Thailand for those popping the question soon
If you’d love to get engaged in the next few months, pick somewhere that’s going to be hot and sunny between January and April. We’d recommend Thailand, as let’s face it, we’re more likely to bag an invite to the royal wedding than get a sunny winter in the UK. Plus, Thailand’s beaches are something else, and Phuket’s got 40 kilometres of sand, so you’ll be sure to find a secluded spot to get down on one knee – and bag a bronzed glow for the engagement party once you’re home. Or, for something a bit different, head to Bangkok’s street food markets, and hope for a yes after you’ve got tummies full of Tom Yum soup. After all, we’ve heard Prince Harry proposed over a roast chicken, so make like a royal and get food involved.
We get it, once you’re engaged, and you’ve bragged to every family member, friend, and your entire Facebook feed about it, you’ll crave some time together on your own. And we’ve got just the destination. Thanks to Goa’s colour-popping culture and out-of-this-world scents, it’s hard not to feel like you’re miles away from home. And, technically, you will be. After a proposal to be remembered? Sail along Goa’s jungle-lined backwaters on a traditional wooden rice boat, visit glitzy Hindu temples, or go exotic and hope for a yes while showering under a tropical waterfall.
