Every so often, we like to shine a big bright light on some of our not-to-be-missed holiday hotspots. Today, we’re focusing on one of our favourite tropical treats, the Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort in Mauritius…
The guys at Sun Resorts knew what they were doing when naming this place. This five-star showstopper is set on a long patch of sandy coastline in Mauritius – a stretch which unravels for nearly a kilometre. Not only is there lots of lovely sand to lie on, there’s also an adults-only infinity pool, five top-class restaurants and plenty of activities for the whole the family, if we can tempt you off your sunlounger. Add to that a choice of stylish bedrooms, and you might not even get past your balcony. Here’s the lowdown…
Chances are, you’ll want to completely lose yourself here – and you can. But let’s start with some bite-sized geography. Mauritius. East coast. Belle Mare. Got it? Basically, you’re in a great spot for lapping up the island’s mixed cultural heritage. The Indian-infused town of Centre de Flacq is a quick 20-minute cab ride away, with its sarong-draped shops and bustling markets. And for the more adventurous, Lion Mountain’s sky-scraping summit awaits.
As part of our Premier collection, you’d expect cut-above bedrooms and good-looking interiors
throughout. Well, the Long Beach doesn’t disappoint. Chic styling is the order of the day, and the elegant bedrooms feature king-size beds and up-to-the-minute tech, including 42-inch flatscreen TVs and iPod docks. If that’s not enough, you’ll get a sea view chucked in, too. Outside, you’ll find wooden decking sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with an open, tiled patio space. This place is kinda huge. But don’t worry – golf buggies are on hand to whisk you around the hotel’s 60-acre site. Just click your fingers, or something, and they’ll be right there…
Plenty of pools
You’ve noted the grown-ups’ infinity pool, and that’s a big thumbs up for lovey-dovey couples (we won’t judge, honest). But maybe you’ve got a family? Well, Long Beach has got you covered. With two more pools to choose from, you’ll find loads of room to splash about in the main offering, while another decent-sized rectangular pool is on hand for serious swimmers looking to rack up a few laps. Sweet.
Food for thought
We love pile-your-plate-high All Inclusive, but the food’s got to be on point. Fortunately, our hotels know how to tickle the taste buds – and the Long Beach really pushes the boat out. There’s a main buffet restaurant, along with four speciality offerings. Tuck into gourmet Japanese and Italian fare, and sip beachfront Bellinis ‘til your heart’s content.
Fun and games
Just because it’s easy to do absolutely nothing doesn’t mean you have to. That said, the Sea Spa’s chocolate massages make a decent case for it. But if you’re the itchy-feet type, the facilities and activities on offer will keep you entertained, with loads of classes and a bunch of watersports all thrown in. Plus, it’s pretty much every child’s paradise. There’s a kids’ club for little ones, featuring swimming and tennis academies, while teens can enjoy five-a-side football, kayaking, laser sailing and a climbing wall.
