We want to keep you in the know when it comes to travel trends, so here’s our top list of what’s going to big in 2019…
Island hopping
Not content with heading off to one destination, we reckon holidaymakers will be keen to tick off multiple destinations on one trip.
Fancy it?
Sail around the clusters of Croatia and tick off gems like Brac Island or take time out in Thailand and hop from one slice of tropical paradise to another in Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. If that sounds too much like hard work, relax in hippy hangout Ibiza and take a thirty minute ferry over to the secluded island of Formentera for the day.
Alternative destinations
ABTA found that over half of holidaymakers want to try somewhere new in 2018, and this comes as no surprise. Big-hitter cities are struggling to cope with ‘overtourism’, this year’s buzzword. Help reduce the impact o these cities and explore somewhere new and crowd-free.
Sound good? Try up and coming Montenegro, with pine clad hills, gushing canyons and vast national parks. Or, dip into honey coloured Malta and explore Valetta,
Flashpacking
While 2018 was all about glamping in yurts and praying the rain would stay away, 2019 is about backpacking in style a.k.a flashpacking. Forget cramped hostels and heavy rucksacks, though.
Keen? Multi-centres offer up the chance to split your time between more than one place while staying in fancy hotels. Think traveller vibe, luxury surroundings. So if you fancy Morocco but can’t decide where you want to go, pair up bustling bazaars in Marrakech with beach time in Agadir.
Budget-savvy breaks
According to ABTA, holidaymakers are savvier than ever. More and more people are booking further to secure the perfect holiday, and keeping a closer eye on budgets. Wondering how else to save? Almost half of people surveyed by ABTA have taken a package holiday in the past 12 months – making it the most popular style of break. We reckon this is down to the value it provides, with most people finding it’s easier to save with a fixed budget. It’s lucky, then, that First Choice are the masters of All Inclusive.
