The Hotel Don Pancho is anchored one block from Levante Beach, with a clutch of bars and restaurants right outside. The centre of Benidorm is only 15 minutes’ walk away, too.
It’s not hard to see why this place bagged a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2013 – it’s got a good-sized pool, lots of entertainment, and a location that puts bars, restaurants, and sands all on the doorstep.
Bedrooms here feature comfy beds and wooden furniture, with walls painted in a warm peach and white colour scheme. They all come with a balcony or terrace, too.

The Good, the Bad (but not Ugly)
Four of us stayed at the Don Pancho for 10 days in August. It was our first visit to Benidorm and after hearing some horror stories, we tried to go with an open mind.... GOOD All rooms face the sea. Public areas have been modernised and are beautifully furnished especially the lovely TV lounge area near Reception. Food selection & quality is fantastic & I have to mention the profiteroles with chocolate fountain which appeared every other night & were to die for........! Lots of fresh fruit for breakfast altho if some of this could have been cut up or peeled eg the oranges, kiwis & pears, this would have been easier to eat. Staff very friendly on the beautiful bar area next to the card tables & particularly Alfonso & Lute in the pool bar where we had a snack for lunch. Drinks were very reasonable & we were pleasantly surprised on settling our bar bill. A big thank you goes to Ray, one of the waiters in dining room whose excellent service was unbelievable & he really looked after us, even placing our wine on the table before we entered for the evening meal. He deserves a special mention as he was so happy & smiling as well as being very attentive which is exactly the sort of service you want on holiday. Chefs in the evening at the show cooking station were friendly too, particularly Rai whose spare ribs were absolutely delicious! The location of the hotel is excellent with the promenade virtually on your doorstep and lots of shops, bars & restaurants very close by. It is also only about a 20 minute walk to the Old Town with its beautiful church & breathtaking views across the bay. We ventured into The Strip a few times at night & were amazed at the amount of people milling around some with small babies. Contrary to what we had been told, we didn't encounter any brawls or people too drunk to stand up and although some of the streets were heaving, everyone was too busy enjoying themselves to cause any trouble. There was certainly a lot going on, from people on stilts, pole dancers, male strippers (or so I heard.....!) to the many tribute acts and there was a really good atmosphere. Watch out for the man with the clown face outside the Cayman Bar who imitates people walking along (bizarre!) and visit Tikki Beach to see the lovely Reno perform - he certainly can swing those hips! We went on the Thomson trip to the variety show at Benidorm Palace which was well worth it with a more modern version of Spanish dancing as well as Irish dancing and the stars of the show for us - the three Russian "Strong men". Another day we caught the local bus to Altea which has a beautiful pebble beach. There was plenty of room for us to put up our locally bought parasols & it was very restful sitting gazing out to sea. Warning - the pebbles are very painful to walk on particularly getting in & out of the sea so wear some jelly shoes or similar so you don't end up with bruised insteps like I did! NOT SO GOOD Although the public areas have been modernised and look very smart, the bedrooms do need refurbishing and are very old fashioned. They could also do with more sockets as there was only a spare one behind the fridge & one at the side of the bed, neither of which were anywhere near a mirror. I always take my own hair dryer as the ones in the bathroom are usually worse than useless (& this one was no exception). However, the rooms were very clean and had a lot of hanging space as well as lots of drawers for storage and once you got used to the room it didn't really matter what it looked like. We viewed a superior room during our stay and yes it was very modern & the bathroom had been improved with a larger oblong basin but there was LESS storage space as they had done away with the dressing table so you had 5 drawers less. Also the bedside cabinets only had a small drawer and no shelf at the bottom. The room overall looked lovely but was no bigger than a standard room. The hotel states they are refurbishing all the rooms eventually but whether this means the prices will go up is another question....... Although our check-in was done promptly some staff on Reception during our stay were not very friendly or helpful (especially one in particular who was quite arrogant). We didn't watch any of the evening entertainment as it wasn't quite our cup of tea. Although we are in our fifties we are not quite ready for ballroom dancing yet! Pool area - we found this to be quite disappointing - too much concrete. It could do with softening a bit perhaps with some potted plants and/or maybe some artificial grass in some areas would make it less bare. Also the pool is very small & in our view should be adult only (maybe at a certain specified time of the day?) as it was impossible to have a proper swim with all the children jumping in at the deep end. We didn't actually realise when booking that Thomson Platinum hotels allowed children as our last few holidays have been at Thomson Gold hotels which are adult only. Although I realise that going during August in school holidays would attract more children than other times & certainly our first couple of days round the pool were very noisy with the amount of young children around. Once your own kids have grown up, you find it is far more relaxing to holiday without little ones running around! The food as mentioned above was excellent - the only change which would have made particularly the breakfasts perfect would have been having a chef on hand to freshly cook omelettes...... TO SUM UP......... Despite the number of "Cons" quoted above, taking into account the location of the hotel, quality of the food , friendliness & professionalism of the staff, these points would all make the Don Pancho a hotel we would wish to visit again......More
