Both go-getters and beach babes will love this hotel – it’s got a pair of pools for lounging by, and a bucket-load of things to do.
Sat in 30 acres of tropical gardens, the Sugar Beach Golf and Spa Resort is postcard-pretty. It’s right on a white-sand beach, and its two pools and two restaurants are pushed up against the sand.
Tennis, badminton and volleyball top the activities agenda. Plus there’s a whole host of watersports on offer, too. After dark, you’ve got the pick of a high energy disco or two laidback bars.

Our favourite holiday yet
We stayed for a two week all inclusive break booked through Thomson. Firstly, I should say that we never saw a Thomson rep once, never had a welcome meeting invitation, and they even got the details of the pick up incorrect - instructing the hotel to ring our room at 4 am in the morning, even though we were not due to leave until 14 hours later! Have always booked through Thompson, but I think next time we will look at alternative suppliers. We flew from Gatwick via Dubai on Emirates. Long journey, but all times kept to. A very warm welcome greeted us at the hotel on arrival and the check in was simple and quick. Room - we stayed in 675 in the Manor House and it was totally charming, with a fantastic view. Loved it, room was always cleaned to the highest of standards, and when I asked for a mattress topper (mattress was too hard for me), additional coat hangers and a dress to be ironed, these requests were all carried out with efficiency. Well done to Vijesh who was responsible for our room. We almost booked a beach bungalow, but on reflection I was pleased that we didn't. Food - there was always plenty of choice, and a different theme each evening. I felt that on occasions the food could have been hotter. I am quite a fussy eater so i do struggle, however the lunch at the Tides bar was really excellent. We ate at Citronella three times, and despite the food being good, I felt it lacked atmosphere. On the third occasion we were given a complimentary 5 course meal on the beach, which was really lovely and I felt that this increased the customer experience overall. Pool - I did not venture as it was way too cold for me, but it looked clean and tidy, and was a very attractive layout. Grounds - magnificent grounds kept by a dedicated and probably no so mentioned team of people. Well done to them all - they were stunning both in design, planting and cleanliness. No litter anywhere on the complex. Beach Again water too cold for me, but it was clear and shallow for quite some way out. Water shoes advised as there are lots of coral both on the beach and in the water. Lots of people braver than I and were in the water and snorkelling. Lots of water activities - my partner went canoeing, which he enjoyed, and we also went on the glass bottom boat which operates from La Pirogue - the sister hotel next door. Entertainment We stayed mostly as Tides in the evening and really enjoyed the live music. The waiters were great. We also watched a couple of shows - belly dancing, etc which were entertaining. We ventured to La Pirogue for an evening meal on a couple of occasions and the food was good, but also a band were playing in the background. Worth going to this venue - we only went towards the end of the holiday - so would advise explore this area early - great beach bar at La Pirogue too. Staff - well what a friendly bunch - lovely people keen to do their best for their guests. I would like to mention in particular Christine, F& B Manager, Fazley and Trividen at Tides daytime, and Deelan at Tides during the evening. All though go out of their way to help you. Issues - We did have to raise a couple of issues whilst we were there, and I have to say that it is, in my opinion, the mark of an organisation in how they deal with such issues. I can honestly say that Sugar Beach reacted positvely to the issues we raised, and dealt with them efficiently and quickly. They kept in constant touch to ensure that these issues had been resolved to our satisfaction, which they had. Illness I had the misfortune to develop an ear infection on holiday. We went to Reception, who advised that there was a medical clinic and a nurse on site. We were sent immediately to the Clinic, where the nurse carried out an examination, and said I needed to see the doctor. This was was arranged for a couple of hours later, and the Dr came to the clinic to see me. This was a great service, and offered us great reassurance. We did not know the hotel had this facility in advance, but it proved to be very helpful. Both nurse and doctor lovely people, who did a great job. Weather It was sunny cloudy when we stayed 28 August - 11 September. Locals say that their summer starts on 21 September, and it was certainly getting warmer with more sun and less cloud each day we were there. We did have rain, the second day it rained most of the day, and there were intermittant showers during our stay, but nothing to dampen our spirits (or us, as if you stay under the beach umbreallas you will be ok). We will certainly visit this lovely island and resort again in a few years but will make sure that we go November/December time which is the peak of their summer. Trips We booked to go to the Cascavalles Shopping Centre via a free tour with the hotel. We were disappointed with the shopping centre, and after 30 minutes were ready to leave, so had to wait 30 mins for the transfer. Not a shopping centre as we might recognise it and if you wanted to enter the supermarket you had to check in your handbag/bags etc. Finally well done to all at Sugar Beach for a lovely time - best wishes to all the staff we met - you are doing a great job.More

The Hotel is amazing, the rooms are great, we had a sea veiw room and it was right on the beach and the Sunset views were fantastic. Now the down side. If you are all inclusive you still have to sign for every drink and meal that you have, this would not be so bad if the service was not so slow, sometimes we had to wait over half an hour to sign so in the end we just left. The buffet for the main meal is a free for all and the food is not signed up to show what's on offer, there is no organisation to it and to be honest you are better just filling up on bread tools, although the dessert are great. I would say that this is a five star hotel with one or two class service. Sad really as it could be great if the managers managed their staff.😩More

Beautiful place and hotel
My fiancé and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at sugar beach and it was just amazing. From the spotlessly clean hotel and grounds to the amazing food at tides restaurant, we couldn't have picked a nicer place to celebrate a big birthday. Some people have commented on here about slow service from the staff but what is waiting a few minutes when you are in paradise, someone was always around to take an order. The food at the seafood restaurant on the beach 'tides' was just phenomenal,we ate there nearly every night, such a romantic atmosphere and beautifully displayed food every time. The only thing we would suggest would be to take some form of footwear to wear in the sea as the coral is everywhere and it is spikey! You should always keep an eye out for the fruit bats coming into the resort at dusk and hanging from the trees, they looked so cute! We would return in a heartbeat! More
Loved every minute! Didn't want to leave...
From the moment we stopped there we knew this was going to be a wonderful holiday. We decided to go to Mauritius for our 10-year anniversary for 10 days - with our 2 and 4-year-olds. We opted for a combo - 5 nights at one hotel and the last 5 nights at Sugar Beach. The first 5 nights were ok at hotel one...but the second half of our holiday at Sugar Beach was really magical! Everybody was so friendly and helpful. The rooms are cosy, with beautiful views! The food was delicious - all the time. My 4-year-old had a great time at the kids club! We were so spoiled one evening by Sugar Beach with a private dinner on the beach with a 5-course meal - it was superb! They know just how to let you feel special! When we got back to our room, our room was full of flowers etc. Thank you for an unbelievable experience! We will definitely be back!More
