Valamar Crystal

The family-friendly Valamar Crystal counts a close-to-it-all setting, a relaxing pool set-up, and lots of things to do as highlights.

This place has clinched a seafront spot in a pine forest clearing. You can walk to the ragged shoreline in a few minutes, and the Roman town of Porec is just a bit further on.

The hotel is well geared up for families, with lots of activities and separate pools for children and adults. Décor is cool and contemporary – rooms come with beech furniture and brightly painted feature walls.

Nice stay at Valamar Crystal

This was our first trip to Croatia and we were so pleased to have chosen Istria for our holiday. We were made to feel welcome at the Valamar Crystal on reception and checking in was swift. We were given a room on the 4th floor with a woodland outlook facing towards the sea. The room was fine but we thought the shower was a bit small. Our room had sunshine on the balcony in the afternoon and it was quite pleasant sitting out side with a glass of wine. The Valamar Crystal is a 25 minute stroll from the centre of Porec, it's a nice walk and we walked it nearly everyday, the path takes you through woodland adjacent to the sea. There is a tourist train which stops near the hotel, we chose on occasions to catch the train on the way back from Porec it was only 10 Kuna. The catering in the hotel was excellent, at breakfast there was a good choice of cereals, meats, cheese and bacon for those who like a cooked breakfast. The only let down was the fruit juice which was like a cordial and not very nice. At dinner there was always a choice to eat, from a roast or local cuisine, salad bar with a huge choice and freshly prepared pasta and pizza. A lot of the food available is freshly cooked in front of you. Service in the dining room was very good. The hotel provided entertainment most evenings but we were not all that impressed with the Elvis act! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would like to visit Istria again one day.More

Felt like home

First time in Croatia and I loved it. Just myself and the teenager but we felt totally at home in the Valamar Crystal for our 10 day holiday. Hotel is fine, all the facilities you would need. It is just up from the "beach", no sand which I thought would be disappointing but actually didn't bother me at all, got home with a clean case! A lovely walk to the old town along by the sea or the quicker route through the trees and road, really very safe for a woman alone, Porec is just perfect. It's hard to describe the staff, they were so good but actually genuine. I will miss the guy at reception who helped us out with our Venice trip (sorry, didn't get your name) and Eleanora who cleaned our room and waved at us every morning. And the "animation" staff, Dunja and Andela for Aquafun (amazing dancers), Fanni, the girl with the cakes :). We usually go somewhere different every year but I signed up for the Valamar club card to get the discount because I want to go back next year - seriously I was crying leaving :(. Also they feed you plenty at breakfast and dinner and there is free and good wifi. The wait staff in the restaurant are amazing and there morning and night. Not forgetting the pool bar staff, we got our lunch there a few of the days, and the towel guys at the pool. Ok just the staff ... they just made the holiday for us :). Thank you Valamar Crystal staff, you're the best.More

Nice beach

Situated in a beautiful location with a very nice beach. We were especially pleased with the new pier for jumps in the middle of the bay. The hotel is within a renovated and beautifully decorated from the outside it lacks a bit of design. As regards food, the layout and selection is slightly behind other Valmar hotels. But team at reception is very friendly. Very good free wifi- in the room also!More

Simply - Excellent

returned recently and decided to try Valamar Crystal, having stayed in their 'sister' Hotel next door The Valamar Diamant on 3 other occasions; only because it is no longer available via Thomson. Was not disappointed in the least. Valamar as a company are a very professional organisation who do an excellent job making your holiday perfect. Friendly staff, impeccable cleanliness throughout the hotel and if anyone has any complaints regarding the food for quality and choice then I will be extremely surprised. Porec and Croatia are beautiful and we will certainly be returning in the near future. Thank youMore

A good hotel in lovely surroundings

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Valamar Crystal. We arrived with two other couples travelling with Thomson and were very warmly greeted as the Thomson group by the hotel receptionists. Check in was efficient and many aspects of the hotel were well explained. When we arrived at our room however we did not like its location. We had e-mailed prior to arrival making a request for a pool facing room on a high floor. Unfortunately we could not find a direct e-mail address so had to go through to the head office. A rather curt reply was received saying that we had to go through our travel agent as the room allocated was “park view”. Now if you go onto the Valamar website you will find that every single room is described as “park view” so they obviously just didn’t want to know. They did say however that they would put a note onto the booking – which never happened of course. Upon returning to reception to request another room the receptionist trotted out the old old mantra of “the hotel is full”. Please receptionists we don’t care if your hotel is full. Either say yes you can have this other room but it is dearer or simply accede to our request. Tourist hotels have constant turnover and it is very unlikely that any type of room cannot be supplied within a very short time. Anyway the receptionist was perfectly charming and quickly found another room which exactly fitted our request and from then on we were very happy. I know that the English are not supposed to complain – sorry we do! OK rant over. The room itself was not very big but had everything you would need and was certainly spotlessly clean. We were very impressed with our cleaner Ana who, although being quite mature, (we can say that because we’re old as well) had taken the trouble to learn some English and did her best to make conversation whenever we bumped into her. Will also just mention that Wi-Fi in the room and throughout the hotel was free and very good We arrived late afternoon so our next visit was to the dining room for dinner. Saw a very charming maitre d’ who explained how things worked in the restaurant. You choose anywhere to sit, wait for the wine waiter to order then everything is serve yourself buffet. We found the food selection quite wide and the quality of the food excellent. Breakfast was equally as good and we would also like to mention Ivana who cooked the eggs etc who was a really lovely lady, always smiling and a great asset to the hotel. Oh and the local wines are very drinkable. The hotel does offer various drinks package deals at cheaper prices but they were somewhat complicated on what you could or could not have so we gave up on that one. Evening entertainment was either a one man band or a trio playing music for dancing. You did have to look at the notices however to discover in which hotel the entertainment was on for that evening. There are three Valamar hotels in the grounds and you can use the facilities in any of them. Earlier in the evening there was a kid’s disco and although not involved on this trip with children ourselves they did appear to be well catered for at most times. We do not like lying around pools and at this Valamar we could use sun beds set under the pine trees which were very restful. It would have been even better if cushions were also supplied as these beds were the hard plastic variety which are normally supplied with mattresses. The sea is just a few metres from the hotel through the pine trees and there is a very pleasant walk way which, if you turn right, takes you into the town of Porec. If you can’t be bothered to walk there is also a little tourist train which runs about every 35 minutes to take you there. Overall this was a most enjoyable holiday and made a very nice change from the usual Canary or Greek Island trips. Croatia is a beautiful country and we found its people to be very friendly as were all of the Crystal staff. Prices were very favourable for us and we will certainly return. Really surprised that more Brits don’t seem to have rediscovered this country – do go – you will like it.More
