Pick holidays to Lixouri for a whole coast of incredible beaches and impressive historical sites.

Sunshine with a smile

It may be one of the main towns on the eastern peninsula of Kefalonia – one of Greece's Ionian Islands – but Lixouri has its fair share of quiet hideaways and traditional charm. Local hospitality sets the scene wherever you go, whether at a family-run taverna or an al fresco bar. Fire back a friendly "yassas" – that's both "hello" and "cheers" in Greek – and you'll soon fit right in.

Coastal culture-fest

Many of the island's historic gems are within a short drive, including the ancient Monastery of Kipoureon – only 20 minutes away. And Lixouri's got its own little nuggets of culture, too, like the gleaming-white Gero Gombos Lighthouse with its panoramic ocean view.

Shores in every shade

The Paliki Peninsula is well-known for its rainbow of beaches. Nicely bronzed Lepeda Beach is under a 10-minute drive away, and a little farther you'll find the striking red sands of Xi Beach. For white pebbles and turquoise sea, head 30 minutes north to Petani Beach.

By land or sea

Ferries run regularly to the island capital Argostoli, and they offer more than just short trips – the whole of Kefalonia's coastline is yours to discover. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, you can choose from scenic wine tours and coach trips that whisk you around the island.
