Magnolia Cottage

The holiday was for 2 weeks (end of July till 10th August). Because there were 11 of us, we hired the 3 bedroomed apartment upstairs and the 3 separate rooms downstairs.The house is cool, light and airy, not needing air-conditioning despite the heat (fans are provided in some rooms), the two largest rooms being very spacious. There are 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms and a shower room and the level of provision of furnishings and equipment is high. The housekeeper (Oliva) speaks good English and makes sure everything is in good order. The views from the upstairs balconies are superb, over the old city to Lokrum island; it's only a few minutes to the newly reinstated cable car, and there is a baker's shop almost opposite it. Although the property is in a leafy, quiet residential district, it takes less than 10 minutes walking to get into the old city, and the same to a beach (get there early if you want some space and cooler temperatures). The house has an attractive garden which contains trees, shrubs and flowers: we were able to make our own lemonade from the large lemons available. On the (possible) downside, the property is reached from the road by 107 steps (yes, we did count them), and if clients are intending to go to Dubrovnik by car, they should be aware that parking in the vicinity of the property is rarer than hens' teeth. Of greater concern to us was the fact that the garden was the meeting place for a large number of feral cats, which rendered the garden unusable for the children due to the smell and the fouling: downstairs doors on to the garden could not be left open in case the cats got into the house. A great shame as the house was pretty near perfect for us and we had a really good holiday there.

Nous avons passé quelques nuits dans la grande chambre du bas fin mai. C'était exactement ce que nous cherchions: hors des remparts pour être au calme, mais à 5 ou 10 minutes à pied de la vieille ville. La terrasse et le jardin sont très agréables avec une vue magnifique sur la ville et la mer - il y a quelques marches pour accéder à la maison, mais rien de bien long ni fatiguant. La décoration est un peu ringarde, mais parfaitement fidèle aux photos et à la description du site et c'est très propre. Il y a une cuisine, pratique si l'on reste plusieurs jours.
