Holidays to Possidi take you to one of northern Greece's most beautiful beaches – and it comes with waterside tavernas and rugged countryside all around. As for nightlife, Kalithea is just up the road.

A laidback resort

Possidi is a tranquil seaside village set on the south-western coast of the Kassandra peninsula, all the way up in northern Greece. It’s a golden beach retreat on one side and a rural idyll on the other – the lush countryside that cushions the village is great for hiking and cycling. Along the water are café-bars and restaurants that fill up with locals and tourists every evening. As a bonus there are ancient ruins right on the doorstep too.

Golden sand beaches

What you’ve got here is a soft sandy beach with a few shingly areas, fringed with lush vegetation and lapped by clear blue waters. It’s all geared up for an easy life, with sunloungers for hire and bars right on the sand. Another sandy beach is at Siviri, 15 minutes’ drive away – it’s a change of scene with beach bars and restaurants along the promenade. Or there’s Kalithea, 20 minutes’ drive away, which is a big hit with snorkellers.

Daytrips to Thessaloniki

Greece’s vibrant second city, Thessaloniki, is 90 minutes’ drive away. The huge 5th-century Agios Dimitrios church is the centrepiece of the place – you can jump on a tour of its impressive underground crypt. There are Roman relics to explore at either the nearby Archaeological Museum, or the ruined Palace of Galerius, a little further on. Shopping wise, there are 2 sprawling designer malls along Tsimiski Street.
