    Despite its central location, the Hotel Monica feels a world away from urban bustle thanks to a peaceful garden pool scene.

    Large palm trees bring a little shade to this hotel's garden terrace and swimming pool. In the evenings, the gardens transform into a haven of bean bags, ambient lighting and chilled music – the perfect sundowner spot. There's also a spa for guests who want to treat themselves to a massage*.

    This hotel's set on the Costa Dorada in Spain's Catalonia region, just two minutes' walk from the beach. This area's host to more than half a dozen more beaches with different activities like sailing or surfing. The shops, eateries and nightlife of Cambrils are also within a few minutes on foot.

    Great food with a wide variety, staff wonderful, very helpful and hard working. This is a 4 star hotel. The rooms are clean and the the bebs are comfortable, this hotel has got to be one of the best in the area. We will definitely be returning.

    4ish star hotel described by Tui as "small and friendly" - which is absolutely spot on. If you want big hotel extras like show cooking, evening entertainment, daytime activities - then please read the description of the hotels to make sure you don't make the wrong choice for you. The Monica is exactly what the Tui description says and it really surprises me that some reviews have raised the lack of big hotel extras as an issue. So the pros... - Good location if you want to be close to the Old Town and lots of local restaurants and bars. A lot of the other Tui hotels are quite a walk away - Very friendly and efficient service in the hotel - the bar and restaurant particularly good - I was made to feel very comfortable and welcome as a solo traveler. - Rooms on the small side but everything I needed for a week - Free safe (quite unusual these days) - Aldi within 5 minutes walk for provisions - An english newspaper available to read (The Times) - I requested a kettle on arrival - several were available - so I borrowed one for the week - Smallish gym and a sauna free to use - Food good quality, wide selection for the size of the hotel. Quite a lot of typically Catalan dishes at supper - good to get the chance to try something new and different. I don't go on holiday to eat the same things I eat at home - so it was great for me. - Every night you could have meat (steak or burger) and/or fish (e.g. bream, monkfish,dorada, tuna) plus fresh asparagus cooked to your preference by the chef. Really nice. - Towels - 10 euro deposit - very straightforward - Toiletries - all the basics available in the room - tissues, shampoo, bath/shower gel - Fridge/Mini-bar - No complimentary items - but easy enough to move the items around and get your own bottle of bubbles and water etc in the fridge. - Drinks with supper - you could order by the glass at very reasonable prices (e.g. 2.5 euros or less for Cava/wine) - plenty of hotels force you to buy a bottle. As a solo traveler I really appreciated this. Cons - The hotel is a bit "tired" in the corridors e.g. the carpets - but how much time do you spend there? - Rooms on the small side and poor sound proofing between adjacent rooms - Occasional noise from the building works between 8:30 and 18:00 only - however Tui warned me about this (after I had booked - grr - but that is Tui's fault not the hotel) - Not a very interesting view - but again I read the brochure - checked out the hotel location and wasn't expecting much of a view. I really liked the hotel - I knew what I was going to get before I booked it and was pleasantly surprised in particular by the friendly service in the restaurant and the diversity of local food options to try.

    Well located in lovely Cambrils. The hotel has a pretty pool and garden, we enjoyed the outside dining terrace. Sadly disappointing otherwise. We had no choice but to pay an upgrade to a pool view ( complete with a view of the building work and accompanying noise) as our allocated “standard”room had such a dire outlook. Quite the worst we have ever had in over 40 years.This “standard room” (read substandard ), looked out on rear balconies of some residential apartments, complete with dirty washing, piles of shoes, cleaning equipment and toys etc. and only about 15 feet away. No problem to The Monica, “you got what you paid for, we can move you if you pay a supplement” . Dreadful attitude. The breakfast would just about qualify for 3 star status, sadly the dinner offerings would not. The only bright point was the ice cream and some of the cold desserts. Please don’t tell me about the “show cooking” ( a hole in the wall, reminiscent of school dinners.) The founder of the hotel died in the mid 1980s, the threadbare and stained carpets seem to predate this. This was our first foray into “Small and friendly”, probably our last on this showing.

    Lovely garden with pool and good central location! That is the end of the good points! Very tired hotel, disgusting smell on 4th floor, dreadful intrusive noise from building site opposite, food repeated every day, leftovers from previous evening regurgitated in different format, staff were not happy! Housemaid would not speak! Some nail clippings remained on the bathroom all week, not ours! Tui should review their contract! I looked for rep every morning and evening but never saw her! Will not be returning!

    The area of Cambrils is lovely and the hotel is situated just a minutes walk from the beach, port and lots of shops and restaurants but I’m afraid that’s where the positivities end! Unless you are of a more mature age, then I wouldn’t bother booking this hotel. I stayed here for a week and was very disappointed. There is no entertainment at all, no daytime activities and I’m not sure if it was just because it’s nearing the end of season, but the food was very limited and not at all up to 4* standard. I had booked breakfast and evening meal and ate just twice in the hotel restaurant. (One of those was the first night when the waitress got the chef to grill me some chicken). It does say in brochure that steaks can be cooked to order but they are on display and brown in colour, so I didn’t risk it! Bog standard, at best, breakfast but edible. During my stay, and I presume for some time to come, there is a building site right in the doorstop, if you’re given a pool view then you will have a building site view! With all the noise that that entails: drilling, banging, whirring of a huge crane etc etc. (And they don’t stop for siesta although on the plus side, they don’t work Saturday and Sunday!) So +‘s; close to beach, shops, restaurants Clean room and bathroom Nice gardens Friendly staff -‘s; small balcony Poor food Building site on doorstep No activities or entertainment Definitely not suited if you have kids. So unfortunately this holiday ranks one of my worst! ☹️
