I gave a five because our overall experience was good. Check in was smooth and room was available to leave our luggage at 12. Room was on the fifth floor. No issues. Recently renovated. Comfy bed. Excellent shower. Didnt opt for breakfast so cant comment. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is not central but if you turn left and walk for about 15mins you hit the beach and can then walk the promena...

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. However be very aware of what they charge you for. My wife and I were asked to pay a deposit of 100 euros to cover city taxes and use of mini bar when we checked in for 3 nights. On check out we were told that we would be refunded any amount due which wasnt used. My calculations were that we would probably get around 40 euros back. We had a lovely stay at Hotel Barcelona Universal. It was a great base for exploring the city.
Hotel:
Check-in was smooth, with an online process where you scan passports and enter details. This is worth doing in advance to save time. Next to the Paralel metro station and short walk to Las Ramblas this is a great hotel.
Check in was seamless, rooms are large, well decorated and comfortable. Good bathroom facilities and everything you need included....

We visited Barcelona and stayed at this hotel between 9th - 13th March. The hotel itself is lovely, but would definitely not stay again due to the location, which is a shame.
We noticed it was extremely loud during the night. There is unfortunately a lot of homelessness and begging right at the doorstep of the hotel and we encountered a few situations which were quite overwhelming and scary.
