I was a little sceptical after seeing some of the reviews, however, there was nothing to be worried about. All I can say is AMAZING!! Everything about our stay was superb, from the outset and throughout! The hotel itself was lovely, we were room 736 and had a limited sea view which I didn’t mind. The rooms were modern and simple. It has a large flat screen tv, a fridge which is re filled every other day with beer, soda, pepsi, 7up and water. There are also 4 optics - rum, tequila, vodka and whiskey. In the bedroom area, there are 2 double beds pushed together in the middle. The bathroom has a toilet, 2 sinks and a large walk in shower. There are 5 restaurants, we ate at the specialist restaurants but they aren’t the best. However, the buffet restaurant was fantastic and had such a range of food, hot and cold. It is by far the best in hotel buffet restaurant I have ever ate in. My partner is very fussy, and it even catered to him! We ate breakfast and tea there, we never bothered with lunch as there are hotdogs and burgers in the sports bar so we just used to grab one of those. The waiters in the restaurant are so lovely and can’t do enough for you. Each night, we were greeted by a gentleman called Fray, who saved us the same table every evening. He was fab. The location of the hotel is ideal. You are about 5 minutes walk from the ‘strip’, which entails clubs such as Coco Bongos and Senör Frogs. You’re around 40 minutes walk to a shopping centre called “Liverpool”, which has shops such as Zara, Nike, Victoria Secret, Adidas, Louis Vuitton and more. You can get the local bus from outside the hotel to get there. You need to get on the R1 or R2 bus which takes you right outside and costs about 50p per person and takes about 10 minutes. It is definitely worth doing! Opposite the hotel is a huge lagoon which houses about 600 alligators, if you go there about 5pm you can see them. The shops and ATM inside the hotel are really expensive, but if you leave the hotel the shops adjacent are so much better price. The beach is lovely and has a selection of piers down it which you can walk down. The only thing is the sea and waves and quite rough, and I believe there was only 1 day out of the 7 we were there, that there was not a red flag!! We did 3 excursions when we were there, we booked them through TUI and I believe in total for 2 people, it totalled about £450 / 10800 peso. The first trip we did was on the Tuesday and it was the TUI bar crawl. It was lead by 2 TUI reps, Aldo and Adam and you visit 4 clubs/bars - Carlos N Charlies, Mandala, Palazzo and Coco Bongos. It was a fantastic night and well worth the money, it was an open bar all night too. The only disappointment was Coco Bongos, I would not be going again. It was to busy to the extent you couldn’t move!! I dread to think what would happen if there was a fire. The second trip we did was Isla Mujeres from Cancun which was a TUI only boat trip which takes you across to the 3 mile wide island of Isla Mujeres. On the way, you snorkel and visit Mexico’s underwater museum, you also stop for lunch and drinks which are included in the price at the Ice Bar, you then go over to the island where you can hire a golf cart and cruise round the island. The third trip we did was Xel-Ha which is an Eco Park. This was absolutely incredible and I would recommend it to anyone!!! The only down side is it is a 2 hour journey to get there from the hotel, however, the day you will have at the park definitely makes up for it! All in all, our trip to the Riu Cancun was fantastic!! We couldn’t thank the hotel staff, and the TUI staff for the amazing experience we had there. More
Second time staying here - absolutely love it. Beautiful hotel, excellent staff, lovely atmosphere. Only thing I’d say is I am a bit of a fussy eater and wouldn’t say there is massive amounts of choice. Contrary to some of the reviews I’ve read on here, hotel is very clean and constantly being cleaned. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful! Definitely would recommend :-)More

Room: 618 + Amazing view (see photos) + quiet & large + 3 beds (2 double beds pushed together and 1 twin) + Fully stocked mini fridge with beers, sprite, pepsi and botted water + double sinks in bathroom - Shower did not drain fully, leaving you 5 minutes to have a shower before water would overflow into the bathroom - Water in shower was lukewarm at best - no fan in bathroom = extra humid and slippery Hotel: + Buffet was amazing, hot, and fresh everyday + Service was through the roof, they really go above and beyond + Drinks were watered down but still delicious, and would be quick to make what you ordered, even customized drinks + Far pool near the Jacuzzi was always clean, quiet and hardly busy + Beach was cleaned every morning and they had servers come out to the beach to bring you drinks + Front desk insanely helpful. Upgraded us to a 3 bed room for 3 of us, we lost a towel card and room key and they gave us new ones no problem. + Recently renovated and very modern & sleek - Swim Up bar /pool was always dirty with sand and murky by early afternoon and crowded with people smoking - No designated beach smoking area, smokers chain smoking near children, on the beach, and in the Jacuzzi, and in the nightly entertainment theater. - Elevators were extremely slow and sometimes didn’t stop on the floor you wanted, or would stop on a random floor and go back to the ground floor.More
Having stayed in Mexico in the Excellence chain 3 times in Riviera Maya, was a bit aprehensive but had no need to be. Hotel was lovely, location brilliant. Speciality restraunts offered but no need as buffet restraunt was the best we experienced in Mexico. The staff were the most hardworking, friendly, happy to do anything to help, service was overall excellent at this hotel. Will definitely return, special mention to Roberto, pool waiter, his service was outstanding, constantly topping up drinks with a smile, this gentleman was so hardworking made our holiday.More
