    With its mountainous scenery and charming atmosphere, the Hotel Las Olas offers tranquil getaways in eastern La Palma.

    This hotel sports three outdoor pools surrounded by a deck lined with sunloungers – there's also a separate kids' pool for younger guests. Drinks are served fresh at the bar*, while the buffet restaurant takes care of breakfast and dinner.

    The hotel's on the outskirts of Los Cancajos on the east side of the island, known for its laidback feel. Bars, restaurants and clubs line the main coastal strip, just a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The black-sand beach is five minutes away on foot.

    We stayed 7 days half board with TUI The apartment was large but souless. We had a kitchenette. Balcony double bedroom with old creaky beds and a pull out double in lounge. Occasionally the maid missed us out so sometimes unmade beds and no change of towels. Restaurant was a buffet. Breakfasts fine with cooked and cold options and coffee machines that couldn't keep pace. Evening dinner buffet generally fine- excellent soups , occasional triumphs like the paella and wine cheap. The restaurant has appalling red tape. Every guest had to queue to get in and be shown to seat by the clerk who left the desk so great queues for first 30 minutes. Once you've finished eating you have to rejoin the same queue to pay your drinks bill so uttet chaos and poor staff rushing everywhere. Would be much improved by people finding their own seats and at the end just signing off the bill and leaving it on the table. Most guests are German. We didn't try the pool!
    Close to the end of the runway! Average food, place could do with an uplift/revamp. Staff very friendly.

    Las Olas is a few minutes away from the airport, you see and hear the aircraft after takeoff ( Rwy 18 ) bearing right while being at the pool or sitting outside the dining room. The reception staff are very friendly same goes for the dining room staff. The complex is clean and well maintained but a bit outdated in some areas, a revamp wouldn’t go amiss. Our room had a sea view as all the rest. The room doesn't have aircon and the mini flat screen tv with poor sound quality is 'out' when much larger flat screens are available for little money these days. There are no English tv programs, only two English speaking news channels are available. The evening buffet is average to good in choice and quality, same goes for the breakfast - maybe this is standard for a Spanish 4 star rating - i don’t know?. The pool is large and there is a Life Guard in attendance - he makes sure that the guests don’t lay their towels out to reserve sun beds in advance. Free wi-fi is available but we experienced on the third floor a very poor signal, it was frustrating when the browser wasn’t working not to mention trying to stream anything, this went on for four out of seven days! Our balcony has a table and three chairs and also a washing ‘rail’ to dry your things.The place is fine if you don’t want any ‘ nightlife ‘ because there are no pubs etc in the area, it’s more geared up for the elder generation or for those who prefer to go walking/trekking and want a bit of piece and quiet. The area seems to be mainly frequented by Germans,Dutch and Spanish visitors. In close vicinity you'll find a small supermarket and a few restaurants and not to mention a few car rentals.

    Comfortable hotel close to excellent beaches though access from the hotel grounds slightly inconvenient. Food ok, quiet bar slightly devoid of character. Apartment very spacious with lovely view out to sea only spoilt by slight road noise from the main road outside the bedroom. Full marks to the staff who were always polite, happy and smiley.
    Excellent Stay, better than expected

    Great room, clean and spacious. We were expecting less given some other reviews, but realised that the room had been re-furbished as others were during our stay. Food was very good, location was excellent, and an hours stroll by the sea to Santa Cruz or regular bus service. Staff could not have been more friendly. Very near to the airport, but other than a few quiet propeller planes a few jets a day around mid-day which cause no noise issues at all. We really liked our 2 week stay here, and hope to return. Unbelievable value for money for a holiday in paradise, but we have unusually hot weather the first week, which enabled lazy mornings sunbathing on our football pitch sized terrace. This helps create paradise. Not all the terraces were as big, and we did have an apartment, but no easy rule to help you get the best.
    Overrated 4 * hotel

    Duration of stay: 20th Nov. '18 - 1st Dec '18. Apartment: The furniture in the lounge is in need of replacement and the lightng was very dim. The bed was actually quite comfortable, so no complaints there at least! The kitchen untensils were the bare minimum, there was no washing up liquid, no cloths or tea towels. Balcony view was good, 2 chairs and a table. Outside the apartment was a wasps nest which was only removed on our last day, admittedly they didn't cause any real problems but none the less a little unsettling. Restaurant: Breakfast was reasonable although there wasn't a huge choice. Evening meals edible but a lot of the meat was rather tough (lamb chops extremely chewy!) or fatty, most of the fish was ok. Many of the vegetables were overcooked and some of the desserts were rather unhealthy looking. The staff were very polite and helpful which was certainly a bonus. Swimming pool: Absolutely fine! Clean and long enough to do some lengths in. Gym: According to the website a "fully equipped gym" is available. Unfortunately this was not the case, there was not a bike or cross trainer to be seen, only several aparatus for muscle strengthening excercises, mostly beginning to rust! I believe the website also advertises a solarium, this doesn't seem to be on offer any longer. The nearest beach is about 600 metres away, there are several cafés and a couple of supermarkets nearby. In hindsight I would have only booked bed and breakfast and not stayed as long!!!
