The Riu Yucatan has a lot going for it, from its beachside setting to its triple helping of pools.
It’s hard to tell where the pools end and the sea starts at the Yucatan – a powdery white beach runs right alongside the property. You’re only a 5-minute drive from Playa del Carmen’s bars and restaurants, too.
The rooms are really fresh and contemporary. Each one comes with a big flatscreen TV and a roomy balcony or patio.

We didn't stay but ...
had use of the Yuka whilst staying at Tequila, which of course is always a massive bonus! Unlike Tequila there wasn't any real Mexican theme going on here with the buildings. These were modern, sterile looking, & could've been in any country, although still pleasing to the eye. Reception area was very welcoming, & non smoking, as were many of the food areas, which is always a bonus! The several lunches that we had here were lovely (as all RIU's were), although I found there to be a bit of queuing here. I really enjoyed the Mexican food here especially the steak & fajitas. I'd definitely choose this over the Tequila.More
Great Wedding with a few hick ups.
We (23) arrived the first week of Nov. We pre booked building number 5 for all but when we arrived not one was in the requested building we were all at the back, after my complaint within 2 days they moved most of us to building 5 (a Hassel) .This is a great resort out of 23 of us only about 7 got sick, that ranges from tummy aches to full blown explosions but its all good because it wasn't me. Little things wreck big things , I went to the little store by the front desk to purchase a hair clip and handed them a US $20, they told me it was fake and wouldn't give it back, they then told me to go to my room and get another , the $20 was given to me by the bank so I new hey were lying plus I feared as soon as I left they would switch it with a fake one ,I saw my chance and snatched it back from them ,as I left they laughed , they ruined my day. My Daughters wedding , they did a great job although pricy, especially the photographer, but everything turned out great . I would recommend this resort its a great place . Please Don't feed the Monkeys . Brides don't get your hair done there .More
Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in October with my girlfriend and it was absolutely amazing! It’s a bit long the review but felt the hotel deserved it. We stayed in block 4 and on the third floor which was near the pools and bars and theatre and had a good view from the balcony.room was great had everything u could need, beds were comfy and really big, fridge was refilled every 2nd day as were the optics if needed, the house keeping was great and the towel animals were amazing.( asked for a certain animal and got it the next day) The food was good, breakfast is a buffet with a great choice and slight variation everyday which was good! Lunch was a buffet to and this is good too and had a good choice and varied each day (u can pour ur own juice and beer etc which i really liked) dinner in the main restaurant is a buffet and it’s really good and also has a great choice and again it varies slightly every night .there are also themed restaurants to try we only tried the steakhouse but we thought it was really good so we went three times, u don’t have to reserve theses apart from the Mexican. U can have lunch at the tequila and the playacar too these hotels are not far from the Yucatan and u can drink here and use there pools. The pools are set up really well with a quiet pool at the top of the hotel and 2 pools down the bottom these pools are a lot louder. one has all the days activities in it! There are plenty of activities to do during the day and the entertainment team work really hard to include everyone and are okay to let u watch if that’s what u prefer ( wee are both pretty quiet and prefers to watch ) the beach is quiet simply beautiful and is really looked after and there are plenty of sun beds The hotel has a massive selection of drinks but only have 1 brand of beer but I got used to it after a few days so it was fine Without a doubt the thing that made this hotel and holiday so great where the staff ! They work so hard and are so friendly and helpful no matter the problem it gets solved! The bar staff and the waiters were brilliant and u never had to wait long for a drink no matter how busy it got! The waiters work really hard always keeping glasses full at dinner and removing the dirty plates! We went withTUI and the reps craig and cali where great and really helpful and we thought the prices for the excursions where pretty fair and the ones we did ( dolphins and coco bongos) were well organised and where really enjoyable and we would recommend doing them both! Weather was really good for the 2 weeks! Our holiday was so good and we Would most definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Mexico and it made our first time to Mexico amazing!! And we will definitely be back!! More
We just returned from Yucatan from a 7 day stay in November, this trip was amazing. I've been on 10 all inclusive and this hotel takes the cake. I can't compare to any other hotels in Mexico unfortunately but I've been to a lot in Cuba, a few in Dominican. The hotel is very modern, fresh, great for getting around. we were in block 5 on the third floor and loved out location. Rooms: shower pressure was great, room was large, requested and king and got it. Bar was stocked every other day which was perfect, had the bottles in room as well. There was enough hangers with a big closet and six drawers. I liked having the toilet in a separate area with its own door. shower door was glass, which was ok with us but if youre travelling with someone you would want privacy then request an extra towel to drape over the door. beach: the sand is lovely, plenty of chairs, you are only allowed to pull your chair to a certain part of the beach so it leaves a lot of room for walking, games and just an overall better view. the ocean was wavy all week, some days more ... one day we rode the waves all afternoon. a lot of people brought floaties down to the ocean (from home). bar is close by for the beach, just up some stairs. pool: there is a main pool area which has music and entertainment every day, these two pools (side by side) have loungers in them. There is a small swim up bar beside the main pools which have built in tables and seats at the bar and at the edge of the pool. there is also a quiet pool up by the lobby which we didn't go to but it looked lovely. restaurants: we tried the steak house and loved it, the Japanese and loved it and the buffet. you need reservations for the Mexican so we didn't make it there. there is also an italian restaurat for lunch and dinner but we didnt make it there either. the other two (steak&japanese) you show up and are seated when there is a table available. we never had to wait but I did hear of people waiting - in that case go to the bar (we saw them giving out buzzers so you know when your table is ready) the buffet had such a great selection. breakfast and dinner is in the main lobby. lunch is at margarita (beside the pools - this is also where the Mexican and Steak House restaurants are). food was amazing, amazing! I loved it all! bars: there is a lobby bar which seemed to be open early, there are two bars by the pools - one of which is open until midnight. there is a swimup bar and then a bar that faces the beach. the quiet pool by the lobby looked like it had a bar too. all excellent great service. special mention to Alfredo, he rocks!!!! we walked up the beach to the left (if youre looking at the ocean) it took about an hour and there were Mexican stores, but also Old Navy, Zara - a few others. there are hundreds of Mexican stores for souvenirs. you can also get there by walking through playcar. an hour drive from the airport. we did the tulum/xel-ha excursion which was great. there is a kids area ... didn't fully check it out but looked good. there are howler monkeys on the resort and I loved watching them... if you leave the lobby go to the right and they are in a little hidden area. the balcony had a built in towel rack which was nice to dry our suits on - makes the hotel look nicer too to not see everyones towels or suits hanging over the balcony. if youre wondering if you should book yucatan DO IT! we will be going back next year 100%!More
