Dionysios Studios & Apartments

Our 3rd year running in Skala but first time at the Dionysios, already booked for next year. We have normally stayed where there is a pool and bar, as we only swim in the sea and had too many unwanted overpriced drinks at a pool bar listening to other people’s holiday stories we thought we would try here and save 800 pounds at the same time. This worked very well for us. The room for us is just somewhere to sleep and have some breakfast, this did the job for us as the room was comfortable and clean, bathroom small but adequate with a well stocked kitchen area. Dennis was very friendly and helpful too. Rather than book with Tui we have saved 200 pounds on next years holiday by booking with Love Holidays. Unfortunately we did suffer the usual enthusiastic chair scraper that goes with all holidays and a real problem for us was a heavy smoker on the next balcony preventing us from using it a few times. The smoking issue also a problem in Taverna’s and bars. I don’t understand why when people are enjoying good food and a drink why some people think it’s ok to force their obnoxious smoke down other people’s lungs. The workers in these places don’t want it either, they want the law changed to prevent this. My other moans when eating are people with bare chests and large guts hanging over their ill fitting shorts. Just put a shirt on it is far more respect full, and put your phone away. Listening to people shouting down their phones or the constant beep when messages come through is not nice. As for places to eat. Well take your pick as you are spoilt for choice. My usual guide in Greece is look at the price of a Greek salad and a large beer, some places will charge more than others but the food will be no better. As for a different day out then try unexplored in the Main Street and do a quad safari , we did the old Skala tour with Mick and Makis. A great 3 hours at a very reasonable price. Be aware the Ammos beach bar has caused some problems. The bus in Serbian students and sometimes have ridiculously loud music ruining your peace and quit if your on the beach within 500m of them. The also have beach parties keeping holiday makers awake who are staying near by. We have found out the police are called many times and they have been fined for this but they keep doing it. So if you give them your custom then you are supporting this behaviour. The taxis are a good way to get around and they will not rip you off, just some advice, it is illegal to drive whilst on a mobile phone, unfortunately the taxi drivers don’t seem to know this, so do as we did and tell them to stop the car till they have finished their call, most will do so and apologise though the odd one will not be happy, but you may save someone’s life.

A wonderful week staying in a studio at Dionysios in a lovely quiet street just a stones throw away from bars, restaurants and the beach. These studios are kept very clean and the towels and sheets are changed twice a week and bins emptied every day. Dennis and the staff are very friendly and helpful if you need anything. Nothing is too much trouble. The studios are large and have all the basic equipment in them to have breakfast. This is the only meal we had in the studio as we ate out for lunch and dinner. We have visited Skala every year for the last six years, but have never stayed in the same studios or apartments until now. We will be booking here again for next year. We would highly recommend thesis studios for anyone who likes to be near to the beach and restaurants but also likes peace and quiet.

Stayed for one week to attend friends beach wedding in Skala and had a great time. The studio had everything I needed (took my own hairdryer and travel iron). Dionysios is immaculately clean and very attractive, whilst enjoying a quiet location, it is 5 minutes max walk to the beach -down ‘Homer’s Steps’ - and a 3 minutes level walk to the main street. Dennis, the owner, could not have been nicer - so friendly, helpful and relaxed - even providing me with a lift to the hen party when I arrived late at night. He arranged a great car rental deal for me (with Pefanis). Because I was leaving the accommodation during early evening on the day of departure, Dennis allowed me to use the room all day for a small extra charge. He was really helpful with advice and information about places to go and things to do in Kefalonia. Finally, there is also a gorgeous golden retriever living at Dionysios! Very much hope to return : )
