Vilamoura Garden Hotel

We stayed here for a week and met up with other family members for a wedding at the nearby Hilton Hotel. The hotel was clean enough and the rooms were good. We stayed on a B&B status and so only had breakfast in the hotel, unfortunately although a buffet breakfast it was mainly the same things on offer each day. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful. There was an arrangement with te very nearby Hilton Hotel to use the free bus service to Vilamoura Beach or the marina. We used this most days. The pool is quite small at the hotel although we managed to use the Hilto pool one day which was a lot bigger. The area is lovely and great for golfers. I would go back again but would like to see other areas of Portugal.

We have just returned from a mini break at this hotel and it did not disappoint. It ticked all the boxes for me and being quite small gives a personal touch to your stay. We also wanted a hotel that was quiet (which it was) but in easy access to the Marina and other restaurants. Breakfast was buffet style but had a great selection, breads, bacon, eggs (ask for them to be done a certain way before you sit down), pastries, juices (and then a whole load of healthy options) brans, cereals etc. The pool area is nice but had to position the sun loungers in a certain way to get the most of the sun. For lunch we have a little stroll down towards the local SPA supermarket and there are two bars down there : 1 called 'Sailors Corner' is excellent and we ate there a couple of times. Food is very good and reasonable. On arrival at the hotel we were upgraded to a room right above the breakfast room.... the room was massive and had two flat screen TV, Aircon, Balcony overlooking the pool. Sheets and toiletries were changing everyday. Can't fault the room but there was this annoying noise coming from the breakfast area which both my wife and myself could not work out what it was... maybe something to do with a machine in the breakfast area but anyway we could only laugh at this... it started when breakfast opened (coffee machine? heater) We ate at O Pirate (which is walkable from the hotel) and then Tuttapanna (near marina) Both excellent.... Stayed here for two weeks Oct 2019 on a B&B basis. Found the hotel to be well organised and professionally staffed, small & friendly, peaceful, relaxing, clean. We had pool view room 127 which was a large bedroom/suite.Very comfortable and we slept really well.Balcony got sun most of day.The breakfast food was very tasty especially the delicious pastries and the chef cooked fried and poached eggs to order. The hotel is located uphill from the Marina, but don't be put off by this because it is very easy to get out and about. On foot: Going from the hotel to other places is downhill. The walk to Quarteira old town and promenade took us 40 minutes (we are in our late 60's) Turn left from hotel, first left down Rua dos E.U.A and continue down Estrada de Quarteira. To Vilamoura Marina, turn left from hotel and walk through the narrow park between Avenida Eng Joao Meireles. Took us 30 minutes. Plenty of pedestrian crossings and the Portuguese drivers were most respectful. Lovely walks along the beach from the marina to Quarteira and to Praia da Falesia. By local transport: Hourly courtesy bus to Vilamoura's beach and marina from Hilton hotel opposite. Little trains and hop on/hop off buses stop at Hilton. For public bus stops go left from hotel down Cominho de Torre D'Agua for buses to Vilamoura, Quarteira (for Loule), Faro, Albufeira. Regular EVA bus services Mondays to Fridays but very limited at weekends. On return buses you need to get the EVA "normal" service since the "direct" service does not travel close to the hotel. Return bus tickets can be bought from bus stations, but if you purchase them on the bus then only single tickets can be bought using no notes larger than 10 euros! Taxis are good value, approx 5 euros Marina to hotel and 7 euros Quarteira to hotel. Local facilities: We stayed B&B and blessed with fabulous weather we ate out every evening. Quarteira and Vilamoura marina have plenty of bars/restaurants. Close to the hotel are a few small and very good restaurants. Turn left from hotel and first left down Rua dos E.U.A. You will find the Sailor's Corner and Alfredo's bar, and also Rio restaurant (on Rua da Alemanha). Also a Spa supermarket and a Pizza place. Continue downhill to Rua da Inglaterra into the Old Village (pretend old!) where you will find a few bars and restaurants. Restaurant Pirata is close to the hotel, downhill on the right. Alternatively enjoy the hotel's food...hotel guests on half board were very impressed by the evening meals on offer. A very interesting and enjoyable holiday for sight seeing (and an ideal situation for those who play golf).
